Jazzyblu Presents Smoke E. Digglera: Smokin' Sundays

Support our man Smoke! He's currently hosting a series of events on Sunday's and our very own Pooh Bear attended last Sunday's set (video coming shortly). If you are in Louisville, you definitely gotta get over there and check this out.

Da Bassment Compilation: Playa - Come On Girl

EDIT: The song is actually called "Come On Girl". Thank you to Smokey for pointing that out. Here is a snippet (get used to that word because most of the cassette contains snippets Lol) of the song "Come On Girl" by Playa. The song was produced by Darryl Pearson. Da Bassment - Sexual Healing by StaticMajorIsMusic Static absolutely destroys the track! Even though Static is great at switching up his style from track to track, at times I wished he just sang songs like this all the time because his voice was truly special. You can also hear Smokey singing on the second verse before the song fades out and Black is doing adlibs on the whole song.

Tony Thompson - Slave (1995)

Tony Thompson fromt the 90's group Hi-Five released his solo album in 95 entitled "Sexational". Once again, DeVante produced a track called "Slave" with the help of some Bassment members: Darryl Pearson is co-producer, Missy Elliott worked on the track too, but there's some others guest on the track, just look at the credit: Do you notice something special ??? Background vocals by Steve Jawan , that means Static for Steve & Smokey for Jawan, both of them are on the background vocals with Missy. DeVante at the end of the song has a talking part, again, he says Static name, did i told you Static was his fav artist out of the Bassment Crew???

Music: Playa - Stressin'

Here is an unreleased Playa song from back in the day. I don't know any background behind this song, so Neeze can fill us in on the track. I don't believe Static is on this track, but it's still a nice jam. Make sure you listen to the interview we did with the other 2 members of Playa. Interview: Smoke E. Digglera of Playa

Big thanks to Smokey for doing this great interview with us. I hope all of you enjoy this interview and have a great time listening to it. We certainly did.

Album: Playa - Throwback Legendz

I'm sure a lot of you have already heard most, if not all, of the album. Smokey has been selling it on his website and I've also been uploading the songs on Youtube. So instead of choosing one of those two options, we've decided to let everyone download this unreleased classic album for free. And I bet a lot of you could probably care less because you've heard every song already right? Wrong. Check out the final version of "Hollywood" that was not included in Smokey's unreleased Playa compilation. So consider this an exclusive courtesy of www.staticmajorismusic.com Big shout-out to Farid for hooking me up with this track and also the entire album in CDQ. http://www.4shared.com/file/H5qAKnAu/Playa_-Throwback_Legendz__2002.html

Music: Playa - I'm Available (Updated With Single Artwork)

Another Playa joint for everyone. This one is produced by Timbaland. *Slam Edit: Neeze sent over some pictures of the promo single for this song, enjoy!

Smokey Performs "Cheers 2 U" Live and Shouts Out Static (3/6/10)

I had a chance to see Smokey perform last night out here in Hartford, CT. In his set, he did "Cheers 2 U" and paid tribute to Static in the middle of the song. I was really happy to hear him do that, and to be honest, I almost shed a tear. Not only did I hear him perform, but I had a chance to hang out with him and this dude is really cool and down to earth. Hope you enjoy the video, sorry for the poor quality, what do you think? Also, if you want to see more of his performances or some pictures, head over to my blog at You Know I Got Soul

Music: Yaushameen - The World Is Mine (feat. Playa)

Music: Smoke E. Digglera - On The Downside (feat. Static Major)

We've already posted some material from Digital Black, so let's continue the Playa trend and showcase Smokey aka Smokey E. Digglera of Playa. This song, "On The Downside", comes from Smokey's latest album "The Truth In The Booth". I have no idea when the song was made, but I do know that the song was produced by J-Dub and Buddah (no relation to me though, lol). As usual, it's a hot joint and really makes you think about relationships and the difficulty of being in one.

Music: Playa - We'll Meet Again

This is one of the rarest known Timbaland produced songs out there. It was sort of like a myth to a lot of people because we all knew it existed, but we just didn't know if it was ever going to come out. From the interview with Neeze , he told us Static wanted to keep this joint and put it on his Suppertime album. It definitely sounds like this was one of Static's favourite joints and it's one of my favourites too. Let's take this moment to not only remember Playa's great music, but also remember when Timbaland actually made Hip-Hop beats. If you haven't read it by now, Timbaland is retiring from making Hip-Hop music. And some Static news for everyone, "All The Way To Heaven" is slated for a Late-January release. Check back soon for the tracklist.

Music: Playa - Sumthin 4 Ya Trunk

Can't really say much about this joint besides the fact that it's hot. An interesting fact about this song is that they used certain elements from the K-Ci and JoJo song "HBI". Now we all know Jodeci was a huge influence on Playa, so was this just a coincidence? We'll consider this part 1 of the Playa/Jodeci connection (with many more to come!)

Music: Playa "Incense Burning" (Exit Wounds Soundtrack)

I know many might not agree with me, but this is my favorite Playa track right here; this song is so soothing. This song was Playa's contribution to the Exit Wounds soundtrack which released back in 2001. I asked Smokey, who handles the lead vocals on the song, about it and he said it's his favorite solo song he did while with the group.

Music: Playa - Gravy Train

Guess what song Playa sampled this track on, and I might just post the song for everyone as a bonus with the interview that's going to be conducted tonight! EDIT: Yung Major got it correct! The track is "Gravy Train", which is undoubtedly the most popular unreleased Playa song. A lot of people heard a 2 minute snippet of the song from the Def Soul Sampler back in 2001 and assumed it was produced by Timbaland (which probably contributes to the popularity of the track, just because Timbaland has a huge following himself). However, the track was NOT produced by Timbaland, but actually by Keybeats (the people who did most of Aaliyah's last album). We spoke about this track during the interview we had a couple of days ago. I'm not sure if it's on any of the ones I've posted yet, but I can tell you right now that this was going to be Playa's first single off their second album. There were also considerations in putting a young Ludacris on the track. And like...

Music: Playa - Wrong Side Of The Bed

Here is another blog exclusive for ya, and this one is produced by Timbaland. A lot of us are probably familiar with this track, but this is in CD quality. Yes, I said it, CD Quality. I remember discovering this track on Playa's myspace a couple of years ago. I had heard Outsiderz4Life's version prior to that and had no idea the original version was done by Playa. It is definitely one of my favourite Playa tracks (one of Tim Barnett's favourite also). Whose version of the song do you prefer? Outsiderz4Life's or Playa's? Outsiderz4Life - Wrong Side Of The Bed Playa - Wrong Side Of The Bed And a bonus for all the beat lovers out there, can you hear the tick tick sound in the beginning? Timbaland also used that sample on "Time" by Aaliyah, which I believe was written by Static. Though the song was unfinished, you can hear Static's trademark writing style on it.
